Pursuing a Passion for God through the Spiritual Disciplines: Learning from Jonathan Edwards
Dr. Donald Whitney, Southern Baptist Seminary
Description: One of the best ways to grow in our own practice of the spiritual disciplines is to learn from others. In this seminar, Dr. Donald Whitney will take us through the life of Jonathan Edwards and how he pursued a passion for God through the spiritual disciplines over the course of his life.
Abide With Me: The Heart and Practice of Daily Devotional Life
Reid Jones, RUF Campus Minister, Clemson University
Description: How can we as Christians better practice “the art of abiding” with Christ — even in seasons where it’s particularly difficult? In this seminar we will consider the relational aspects of our relationship with the Lord, and we'll review some particular devotional habits that anyone can implement into their daily lives.
Jonathan Rasmussen, Crosspoint Church
Description: Many Christians today are aware of spiritual disciplines like bible intake, prayer, and corporate worship. However, the spiritual discipline of fasting seems lost on our current church culture. How does it work? What is the point? Can we fast from things other than food? This seminar will explore what the bible says about this discipline and consider a plan for how we can personally grow in our understanding and application of fasting.
Training Your Kids for Corporate Worship
Becky Sinclair, Clemson Presbyterian Church
Description: God commands His creation to worship Him (Psalm 29:2), and Jesus declared that God seeks people to worship Him (John 4:24). Do these passages include children? Should children and adults worship together? This seminar will look at the benefits of including children in corporate worship and discuss practical ways parents can help their children learn to worship.
David Sinclair, Clemson Presbyterian Church
Description: We know that the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God as a primary means to grow us in grace, but how are we to read, understand and apply the Scriptures to our lives. In this breakout we will discuss basic principles of interpretation to help us become better students of the Word.
God’s Story and God’s Book: Learning to Study the Bible through the Story Lens
Rob Emmons, Crosspoint Church
Description: Studying the Bible is a challenge for most of us due to the literary and historical complexities of its 66 books. However, help is available when we view the Storyline of Redemption as it unfolds progressively through the individual books, culminating in the coming of Jesus of Nazareth.
Sola Scriptura, So What?
Jason Finley, Crosspoint Church
Description: Sola Scriptura ("Scripture Alone") was the rallying cry that fueled the protestant reformation. However, Scripture's authority and sufficiency are frequently attacked from outside and undermined from inside the church today. Come sharpen your understanding of the doctrine of Scripture and learn why it is so important for you as a Christ-follower today.
Women Who Delight in God’s Word
Abbey Cook, Crosspoint Church
Description: In Psalm 119 the author declares his love for the Word of God, points to its faithfulness and truth, describes its abundant blessings, and responds to the Word in delight and obedience. Together we will explore the Pslam’s depths and riches to grow as women who delight in God’s Word.
